 General Information

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental difference that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world. Autism is not a disease—it’s a different way of thinking and processing information.

What Does “Spectrum” Mean?

The word spectrum means that every autistic person is unique.
- Some children may speak early, others may need help with communication.
- Some may love routines and struggle with changes.
- Some may be very sensitive to sounds, lights, or textures, while others might not notice them at all.

Common Signs of Autism
Every child is different, but here are some common traits parents may notice:
- Communication differences:
May speak late or use few words.
May prefer gestures or pictures over words.
-Social differences:
May enjoy playing alone more than with other kids.
Finds eye contact uncomfortable.
-Behavioral patterns:
Likes routines and gets upset when things change.
Repeats movements (like flapping hands) or phrases.
-Sensory differences:
May be sensitive to loud sounds, bright lights, or certain fabrics.
May seek sensory input by spinning, jumping, or touching things.

Autism is not caused by bad parenting or vaccines.
It happens because of differences in how the brain develops and works.
Genetics play an important role, and sometimes environmental factors contribute, but no single cause has been found.

What Autism Is NOT

Autism isn’t an illness to cure.
Many have strengths like memory, art, and problem-solving.

Early therapy (OT, Speech, ABA) helps kids:

✔ Communicate better

✔ Build life skills

✔ Feel confident and safe

The goal: support, not change who they are.

Your child is unique—not broken.

With love and the right strategies, they can live a happy, fulfilling life.

You are not alone—help is available.

Play therapy uses toys, games, and activities to help kids express feelings and learn naturally—perfect for children with autism, ADHD, or sensory needs.

Play helps kids:

✔ Communicate without pressure

✔ Practice social skills

✔ Learn emotional control

✔ Build problem-solving

Child-Led: Builds confidence

Directive: Targets specific goals

Sensory Play: Sand, water, tactile fun

Role Play: Imagination & social skills

✔ Improves speech and communication

✔ Builds social skills and confidence

✔ Reduces anxiety and stress

✔ Supports sensory regulation

Regular play is fun. Play therapy is fun with a purpose—guided by a trained therapist.
  • 1-on-1: Focused, individualized goals
  • Group: Social skills, teamwork, fun peer interaction
Both are important for progress.
  • Play Therapy: Emotional & social skills

  • OT: Motor skills, independence, sensory regulation

  • ABA: Positive behavior and learning strategies

  • Speech Therapy: Communication and language

Preferred terms:

  • ✔ “Autistic child” or “Child with autism”
  • ✔ “Neurodivergent child”

Avoid negative labels like “suffering from autism.

Yes! Parent-led strategies work best when guided by professionals. Parent training = faster progress.
✔ Practice daily
✔ Use natural routines
✔ Make therapy fun
